Natural Burial and Eco-Friendly Burials

Natural burial ground locations

At Pittwater Funerals, we can assist you in organising a natural burial, often referred to as an eco-friendly burial. This includes options such as biodegradable coffins, which are perfect for those seeking an environmentally responsible farewell. In Sydney, there are two notable natural burial grounds: Frenchs Forest Bushland Cemetery and Sydney Natural Burial Ground at Kemps Creek.

Eco-coffins

Only biodegradable materials, including biodegradable coffins and caskets made from sustainable resources like cardboard, wicker, and solid pine, are permitted for eco-friendly burials. Additionally, flowers must be native flowers with no plastic. These materials ensure that the burial has a minimal impact on the surrounding ecosystem, making it suitable for a natural burial ground.

What is a natural and eco-burial?

Natural or eco-burial is a burial in harmony with nature, involving the use of biodegradable coffins and preparing the body without chemical preservatives, dressed in natural materials. This eco-friendly burial method allows the body to decompose naturally. A graveside service is usually held at a natural burial ground to honor the deceased's connection to nature.
